Have Questions?

Here’s a few questions we’ve encountered. Do you have others? Feel free to contact us with your questions. Email

  • Are your carbon offsets third party certified?

Yes. The energy efficiency upgrades are carried out by Building Performance Institute accredited contractors. The offsets created from these projects are estimated using guidelines from NREL( National Renewable Energy Lab) and other sources to ensure that your carbon offset donations are resulting in actual greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Suggested donations to the Four Corners Offset fund are based on the State of Colorado’s social carbon cost of $46 per ton. Actual carbon reduction depends on the specific project to which these donations are applied.

Projects completed by  4CORE’s energy efficiency and renewable energy programs are local and are generally undertakings of a small scale.  Installed measures are estimations of reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Carbon offsets represent a reduction of one ton carbon dioxide equivalent. Because the suggested donations to the Four Corners Offset fund are based on the State of Colorado’s social carbon cost of $46 per ton, and because our funded energy projects cost more than $46/ton to install, we are conservatively estimating 1/4 -1/2 tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced on your behalf from our local energy efficiency installations for every offset purchased.  Actual carbon reduction depends on the specific project to which these donations are applied.

  • How are projects chosen and grants awarded?

Grants will be awarded in two application rounds. A grants committee will meet to determine income qualification of 80% AMI (Average Median Income) of the  County of residence and review applications. Grants will be awarded to the highest need, site assessment and the viability of providing a beneficial electrification upgrade.

  • Why do local offsets matter?

By investing in this local program, you’re supporting local families who stand to benefit the most from energy efficiency upgrades. You’re supporting local contractors and businesses that provide these services. What sets the Four Corners Carbon Fund apart from other programs offering carbon offsets is that we focus on local projects in the Four Corners region, ensuring that your money goes to work here in our own community.
